When Will We Stop Being Afraid Of Weights?
When Will We Stop Being So Afraid Of Weights?
Are we still doing this? Apparently, yes.
It's 2026. We're struggling through menopause. Our bones are losing density. Our muscle mass is disappearing. And we're still treating weight training like it's optional.
I get it if you grew up in the cardio-is-everything era and can't shake that programming. But walking isn't going to save your bones. Running isn't going to preserve your muscle. And no amount of steady-state cardio is going to keep you strong enough to stay independent as you age.
The thing is, cardio feels easier. It's mindless. You don't have to think about what weight to use or whether your form is right. You just... move. And moving feels like you're doing something.
But here's the truth: the calorie burn stops when you stop moving. Weight training keeps working long after you're done. It builds muscle that keeps burning. It strengthens bones that stop breaking. It creates the kind of strength that lets you get up off the floor, carry your own groceries, and live on your own terms.
If you already know this, great. You're not who I'm talking to.
But if you're still prioritizing cardio because it feels safer or more familiar, I'm asking you to reconsider. Weights aren't scary. Being too weak to live independently? That's scary.
Do the work now or pay for it later.
